What if damnation is the price of true love?

Innocent blood has been spilled on the steps of the Council Hall, the sacred stronghold of the Shadowhunters. Their society now teeters on the brink of civil war. One fragment of the Blackthorn family flees to Los Angeles, seeking to discover the source of the disease that is destroying the race of warlocks. Meanwhile, Julian and Emma take desperate measures to put their forbidden love aside and undertake a perilous mission to Faerie to retrieve the Black Volume of the Dead. What they find there is a secret that may tear the Shadow World asunder and open a dark path into a future they could never have imagined. Caught in a race against time, Emma and Julian must save the world of the Shadowhunters before a deadly curse destroys them and everyone they love.

Review

  • One of the best in the series

I loved the world of faerie opened in this volume. But it was love in many forms that shone throughout and moved me most.
  • Loved it!

Really enjoyed this series. Emma and Julian might be my favorite characters now. And so awesome to include some of the original series shadowhunters!
  • Too much

I love CC’s books. I’ve read them all but this one isn’t exactly a favorite. It’s a good story, however it’s just too much. Too many characters; good and bad. Too many characters means too much story telling for each other this characters. You are thrown all over the place while trying to hear the story behind each and every person in the book. To be honest, I think it would have been a lot better if some of the people remained added characters and not main parts of the story. Or having the book divided into a separate one. I happy with 4-7 people, but 10-12 is a little too much for me. Maybe you’ll enjoy the vast cast. Again not a bad book. A good story added into the shadowhunter world. Yet sometimes a little less is a little better.

Amazing and capturing stories that I love so much
  • Love CC, but...

I have read all of the Shadowhunter Novels and loved them, but this one is definitely the worst; which says a lot considering the rest of CC’s books are strokes of pure genius. There were lots of character plots that took away from what had potential to be a good story. The story line itself is honestly hard to follow and the use of Annabel was minimal. I did like seeing how things could have been after the Mortal War though. That is primarily what gives this book the 3 stars. The Cristina, Kieran, and Mark thing had me weirded out to level 10.5, not to mention I didn’t find myself rooting for Emma and Julian like I had been at the beginning of the series. Overall if you have read the other Dark Artifacts Novels and want to finish the series you should, but don’t hold this book to as high a standard as the others because in the end it will disappoint. Shadowhunter fans know that I am not hating on CC at all because I love her and her writing a lot I just think this project was a small hiccup.

  • Great Book, But too positive

This book was good, but (spoiler alert) I dislike that in every series everything works out perfectly in the end. Obviously things aren’t perfect , but the characters personal lives/problems are all resolved. I would have found it more interesting had there been more tragedy written in.
  • Disappointing

Liberal propaganda filled with thinly veiled political metaphors that fool nobody. Ridiculous character arcs that do nothing to further the plot but only serve to pander to the current political climate. What started out as fantastic literature has become trash. I won’t be reading any more of her books.
  • An amazing read

This is an amazing end to the dark artifices trilogy and any fans of the mortal instruments will be immensely satisfied with this series. I would even go as far as saying that this is better written than the mortal instruments with a much more interesting and compelling cast in my opinion.
  • Good read....

Good read. Not sure I really like the threesome side story in there. This is a young adult book and just seems odd. I think it would have been better without that developing. Yet I am sure it will come into play later. The transgender was addressed just enough. But interjected is some ways that seems to almost damped the build ups, yet I suppose since it was created as a side story it needed closure and it was done nicely. I feel like trying to interweave those with the main characters almost complicated the storyline and lost some of the magical flow. But I would still totally read it again and as always great plots and twists. Love all the characters and the evolution and direction of the story leaves me excited for the next book. Just not as wow as some of the other books.
