Description

An instant USA Today and New York Times bestseller!

F. C. Yee’s The Rise of Kyoshi delves into the story of Kyoshi, the Earth Kingdom–born Avatar. The longest-living Avatar in this beloved world’s history, Kyoshi established the brave and respected Kyoshi Warriors, but also founded the secretive Dai Li, which led to the corruption, decline, and fall of her own nation. The first of two novels based on Kyoshi, The Rise of Kyoshi maps her journey from a girl of humble origins to the merciless pursuer of justice who is still feared and admired centuries after she became the Avatar.

The story is a little slow to start, but WOW! What a book! The first “new” book I’ve read in a while and I’m so glad I did! Amazing!

i know the avatar franchise is a gold mine and many appreciate anything they churn out, but so far nothing has come close to TLA for me, and this is no different. It’s poorly written, drags on without much substance. You’re never hanging off every word, you’re wondering is something going to happen in the next 20 pages?
  • An Avatar for adults

Seriously amazing story. I'm 30, and was recently introduced to the Avatar world. I've become obsessed. AtLA is charming, LOK has depth, and The Rise of Kyoshi is dark. It's very much an adult story, and it's so well-written. I may have a new favorite Avatar... A live-action, or even animated adult series is all I want from this now.
  • A thrilling, fresh take on another Avatar origin

I’m a huge ATLA fan and was hungry for more story after rewatching the series along with Korra. This novel was exactly what I needed. The author does an amazing job at seamlessly growing the ATLA universe as we know it, building on the rich mythologies we’ve learned to love. The pacing was great and characters were all very well-developed. The thrilling action sequences were balanced perfectly with the heartfelt moments of romance and humor (just like the series). I can’t wait to jump into the sequel and hope for more novels that feature other avatars!
  • Beautiful!

I couldn’t stop reading once I started! This book is face paced with the right amount of heart warming, humorous, and enthralling that fans expect from such a great series as the avatar.
