Solomon Northup is a free negro and a skilled carpenter living in his hometown of Saratoga, New York. He gets abducted by two strangers by tricking him to get a better job in a travelling circus. He was drugged, put in a slave pen, and gets transported to New Orleans by ship where he gets sold as a slave to a lumber mill owner. From there onwards, Solomon gets passed from hand to hand as a slave for 12 years. In “Twelve Years a Slave”, Solomon narrates his cruel experiences from the time of abduction to the release.
